Community Sports Stadium

In the heart of Kathmandu, near Thamel, an open, barren field is used daily by children and youth from the surrounding community for friendly matches of cricket and soccer, flying kites, and having fun. It is an open lot in the heart of a dense, hectic city - a rare resource that should be put to better use.

With the assistance of the surrounding Nepali community, local businesses, and two local schools, we'd like to build a community sports stadium, complete with stalls to rent for small businesses to generate income for sustainability and support.

The representatives of both local schools have also agreed to provide in-kind community service from their student bodies to help maintain, and positively make us of, the stadium grounds.

Ironically enough, this lot also stands directly across the street from UNICEF's main headquarters, with their bronzed gates and high, bricked walls. Rather than paying for tax-free, high-end salaries, for cars, free housing, staff, or extended pricey meetings and "retreats", we intend to make an immediate, discernible, appreciated change in the lives of these youth.

The long-term, positive impact a single teacher can have on a community is immeasurable. We'd like to assist those committed teachers who are truly making the efforts for lasting, meaningful change in their students and communities - the catalysts for positive change.

By sponsoring teachers in a direct, person-to-person manner, we can effect immediate and discernable change. In effect, we will be providing educational scholarships to an entire classroom of students.
