Himalayan Healers - Healing Arts School for Untouchable Caste

Dear Friends,

Namaste! It is my pleasure to introduce the first-phase efforts of our newest project in Nepal:

The Himalayan Healers in Kathmandu, Nepal, is a Healing Arts School, Community Clinic, and Eco-Friendly Cultural Retreat working to preserve the rich history of healing and energy work in the Himalayas, specifically for the benefit of Sponsored Students from the Untouchable castes of Nepal.

Living at the absolute bottom of the social hierarchy, and considered as existing outside of the actual caste structure, are the "Untouchables" - those with the lowest income levels and the most labor intensive and unhygienic jobs.

Members of the Untouchable castes are considered to be "impure" and "untouchable", are restricted from entering the majority of community temples, have separate water supplies, and are deemed taboo to touch or be touched by.

They are born into these roles, and have extremely limited opportunities to move ahead, living day-to-day, hand-to-mouth simply to survive.

At the Himalayan Healers project we are training sponsored members of the Untouchable castes to become "Himalayan Healers" in the arts of Ayurvedic, Tibetan, and Indigenous/Nepali massage techniques, supported by a foundation in Yoga, Meditation, and Reiki.

Our Main Objectives Include:

  • Providing healing within.
  • Restoring dignity.
  • Creating bridges within Nepali society.
  • Generating a strong social statement for effective, positive change.
  • Providing credible work opportunities to empower themselves, their families, and their community.
  • Returning the power and energy of their own touch.

Concurrent to our training program we will be intensely working towards arranging Employment Opportunities for our graduate students at quality, respected, supportive resorts and spas outside of Nepal.

Coupled with substantial individual income, this will provide independence, confidence, and significant personal growth, both individually and within the community as a whole.

While the initial focus of our work and our mission at Himalayan Healers is upon providing a credible, positive, effective avenue of social and individual change within the Untouchable community of Nepal, we also recognize that Nepal is a nation in need.

As such, our doors are open to provide assistance to qualified candidates from all backgrounds within Nepal, with a particular emphasis on those who are:

  • Victims of Human Trafficking;
  • those who have been Internally Displaced due to the Ongoing Conflict;
  • Freed Kamaiyas (indentured servants and bonded laborers);
  • and any others of Profound Need.

At Himalayan Healer’s we focus on providing right-minded, professional training and employment preparation. Our three-and-a-half month full-time course provides professional training in:

  • Yoga, Meditation, Reiki, and Self-Care as our opening foci of Internal Healing and Growth, supplemented by our ongoing Counseling Services weekly in both group and individual sessions focused upon Self Healing, and Expression;
  • Beautician Training, Body Wrap, Body Scrub, Reflexology of Hands and Feet, and Head and Shoulder Massage, as a comfortable introduction to the concepts of natural healing and touch for our students;
  • Ayurvedic, Tibetan, Swedish, Sports, Rejuvenation, Sirodhara Massage, and indigenous Nepali techniques.
  • Supportive academic and theoretical course-work runs concurrent to our training sessions.

Following successful completion of training and course-work, apprenticeships will be available for our students at Fulbari Resort and Le Meridien Spa, providing an opportunity for income, increase in confidence, and credible referral for work positions abroad.

An extended portion of our efforts at Himalayan Healers is the Sweat Equity component of our program. In exchange for sponsored training opportunities each student will be required to donate a certain amount of volunteer community service work through various projects in Nepal. We will be working side-by-side with our students, volunteering our own time and efforts in support of the community service projects they elect to be involved with, or generate on their own.

Sponsorship of one student at a Local Rate covers the salaries of Five Specialized Instructors, One Counselor, and Two Program Directors; School and Student Supplies; HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis Testing; Student Stipends of five dollars a day per student to cover Transportation, Food, and Living Expenses; and Operational Expenses.

Unused or supplemental funds will be used for the creation of our second phase of operations: Creation of our Community Clinic and Healing Center, and work towards our third phase of operations: Purchase of land outside of Kathmandu for the construction of our Healing Arts School, Community Clinic, and Eco-Friendly Retreat.

A complete student sponsorship requires a $2,000 commitment. Our reputation within Nepal for transparency, accountability, and sincerity speaks volumes for the effectiveness and credibility of our work, and of your support.

The spirit, energy, and overall mission at the Himalayan Healers project is directed at restoring the inherent balance and dignity within a community of profound need.

By donating to our efforts you are adding your personal Spirit and Energy towards the achievement of that mission:

  • Empowering sponsored members of the Untouchable castes, Victims of Human Trafficking, Internally Displaced, Freed Kamaiyas, and others of profound need;
  • Supporting the social statement that every single human being on this planet is equal, that we all are one and the same;
  • Providing a healthy, positive, peaceful avenue of impacting individual and community lives for the better.

The personal ethics, effectiveness, and pragmatic nature of our project ensure that every donation has the most direct and viable impact possible.

Serving as a foundation and vehicle for peaceful, grass-roots empowerment within the community of Untouchables in Nepal, the Himalayan Healers project celebrates the inherent value, dignity, and equality of every human being, and acts as a catalyst for positive, long-term change.

We look forward greatly to the years ahead, and to the growths and challenges of working towards positive, healing, peaceful changes within the Untouchable communities of Nepal.

Health, Happiness, and Peace,
